A man has been jailed for 17 weeks for shoplifting and abusing a staff member in Aldershot.
Brett Worger, 41, of Tongham Road, Aldershot, stole coffee and alcohol worth £60 from Co-op on Lower Farnham Road on four separate occasions in February.
During one of the incidents, Worger was verbally abusive to a staff member inside the store.
He pleaded guilty to four counts of theft from a shop and using threatening / abusive / insulting words / behaviour with intent to cause fear of / provoke unlawful violence.
Worger was jailed for a total of 17 weeks at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Monday 9 March.
PC Lucy McWhinnie, from Aldershot NPT, said: “We take all reports of shoplifting and abuse against staff extremely seriously and I hope this result reassures the local community that we will do all we can to put offenders before the courts.
“We want to be clear – shoplifting will not be tolerated in Aldershot. The actions of shoplifters make a huge difference to businesses as they have to recover the costs which have been lost. This means they will have to typically increase prices, which has a huge impact on the wider public.
“We encourage businesses affected to please keep reporting crimes to us so we can relentlessly pursue those responsible.”
If you are a shop owner or staff member, please continue to report any shopliftings to us. With your information, we can take action, including arresting and charging suspects and convicting offenders at court.
You can do this by calling 101, or by reporting online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website. If a crime is in progress, please call 999. | ||
